On a night dedicated to celebrating the Divine 9, the Atlanta Hawks put forth a spirited effort but ultimately fell short, losing 115-123 to the Sacramento Kings at State Farm Arena.
Despite the loss, Atlanta showcased remarkable ball movement and bench strength, tallying 30 assists, marking their fourth consecutive home game with 25 or more assists. The Hawks extended their streak of 20+ assist games at State Farm Arena to 53, now the third-longest such streak in franchise history.
Balanced Scoring Attack
The Hawks’ offensive display saw six players score in double figures, a testament to their balanced scoring approach. Trae Young led the team with 25 points, followed closely by Garrison Mathews with 23. Clint Capela (15), Jalen Johnson (14), Keaton Wallace (14), and Onyeka Okongwu (11) also contributed, marking the second time this season Atlanta has finished a game with six players in double digits.
Stellar Bench Performance
Atlanta’s bench was a bright spot, contributing a season-high 56 points and outscoring Sacramento’s reserves 56-26, a +30 advantage. The Hawks’ bench had two games last season with 56 or more points, including a season-high 60-point performance against Charlotte. This offensive depth reflects the Hawks’ potential to generate scoring from multiple players on any given night.
Key Performances
Trae, extended his streak of games with at least one three-pointer to 50, putting him one game away from tying Kyle Korver for the third-longest such streak in franchise history. Young also recorded his 160th career game with 20+ points and 10+ assists, inching closer to Jerry West’s NBA record.
Mathews had an impressive night, knocking down a career-high seven three-pointers on 7-13 shooting. He reached a significant milestone by connecting on his 400th career three-pointer, becoming only the 12th undrafted player in NBA history to achieve this mark in fewer than 275 games.
The Swiss big man, Clint Capela captured his 157th double-double as a Hawk. Capela now stands just two double-doubles shy of tying John Drew for 13th-most in franchise history.
Two-way guard Keaton Wallace delivered a career-best performance off the bench with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a block. Wallace’s sharpshooting, including a 4-8 mark from three-point range, helped keep the Hawks competitive.
