The NFL has announced that Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8. This honor comes after a stellar performance in the Falcons’ win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Cousins’ Dominant Performance in Week 8
During the Week 8 matchup, Cousins completed 23 of 29 passes, throwing for 276 yards and four touchdowns, finishing the game with an impressive passer rating of 145.9. This rating marked Cousins’ highest since September 24, 2017, when he achieved a 150.7 rating while playing for Washington. Notably, three of his touchdown passes were for 30 or more yards, a first in his career for such a feat in a single game.
Elite Company
Cousins’ performance in Sunday’s victory marked his 10th career game with at least three touchdown passes and a passer rating of 140 or higher. With this achievement, Cousins joins an exclusive list of NFL quarterbacks, becoming the sixth in league history to accomplish this feat in 10 or more games. He now stands alongside legendary names like:
•Tom Brady (21 games)
•Peyton Manning (20 games)
•Aaron Rodgers (20 games)
•Drew Brees (18 games)
•Tony Romo (10 games)
Ninth Career NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award
This latest recognition marks Cousins’ ninth career NFC Offensive Player of the Week award and his second as a Falcon. He previously earned the same honor in Week 5 of this season, also after a game against the Buccaneers. Cousins’ consistent excellence has been instrumental in the Falcons’ strong performances this year.
Falcons’ Recent NFC Player of the Week Honorees
Cousins’ recognition continues a trend of Falcons players earning weekly honors from the NFL. Since 2023, several Atlanta players have been named NFC Player of the Week, reflecting the team’s growing prominence in the league:
With Cousins at the helm and several standout performances across the roster, the Falcons are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC. As the season progresses, Atlanta fans will be eager to see if Cousins and his teammates continue their impressive streak.
