The Atlanta Hawks have one last chance to snap their losing skid before the playoffs begin. After dropping four straight, including Wednesday’s heartbreaking 115-114 loss to the Hornets on their home court with the return of Trae Young who was back after missing six weeks with a hand injury. While the outcome wasn’t what they wanted, the squad look to regroup when the Atlanta headed on the road on Friday with hopes of snapping their losing streak, but the Timberwolves had other plans. Minnesota defeated Atlanta 109-106, dropping the Hawks to 36-45 on the season.
Trae Young tried to inject some life into the Hawks, scoring 19 points in just 27 minutes in his second game back from injury. Bogdon Bogdonović added 17 points and Clint Capela notched another double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the efforts, the Hawks dug themselves an early hole, the Hawks got within three points in the final frame but couldn’t get any closer. Timberwolves defeated the Hawks 109-106 and move into a three-way tie for first place in the Western Conference with Denver and Oklahoma City.
The loss locks the Hawks into the 10th seed in the East where they’ll face the Chicago Bulls in the play-in tournament. While the game didn’t have any implications on the standings, dropping four straight heading into the postseason isn’t ideal.
The Hawks will look to end the regular season on a high note when they travel to Indiana to take on the Pacers Sunday afternoon. A win could provide momentum and confidence heading into the play-in matchup with the Bulls. But more importantly, it’s a chance to end this disappointing regular season on a high note in front of the amazing fans who’ve stuck with them through thick and thin. The Hawks have the ability to take down anyone when they’re firing on all cylinders. Let’s see if they can tap into that potential one more time before the postseason starts. Let’s go Hawks!
