Both Google and the Hawks care deeply about Atlanta’s community. This partnership allows them to make a meaningful impact by opening up opportunities for underserved groups.
By coming together, the Hawks and Google believe they can provide greater access and opportunity for Atlanta’s youth. Hawks’ Vice President of Revenue Strategy, Jennifer Young said, “We love partnerships where we can connect to the Atlanta community in authentic and meaningful ways and our programming with Google, an incredible global brand, is just that. Together, we will amplify our community engagement to impact the next generation of Atlanta.” This sentiment was echoed by Google Cloud Vice President of Server Operations, Felica Coney, who said, “Educating the next generation of tech innovators is critical to America’s future, and we’re excited to play a role in Atlanta’s community.”
Investing in the Future
Google recognizes that educating the next generation of technologists and innovators is critical for the future. The tech industry has struggled with a lack of diversity, including low numbers of women in technical and leadership roles. Google and the Hawks want to be part of changing that story. Their partnership with the Hawks aims to inspire young girls in Atlanta to pursue careers in tech with access to resources and experiences that will give them a competitive advantage for tech jobs. The hands-on STEM activities at the camps will expose girls to the possibilities of careers in science, technology, and help break down barriers that have traditionally made the tech world feel out of reach for women.
The power of sports to teach life lessons is undeniable. And the power of women supporting women is unmatched. Female basketball players can sign up by visiting Hawks.com/basketballacademy.
