The Atlanta Hawks made a move to strengthen their roster by signing forward Dylan Windler to a two-way contract. Windler’s Journey to Atlanta started when he was originally drafted 26th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he spent the first three seasons of his career. Over 95 games with the Cavs, Windler averaged 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in just over 10 minutes per game. This season, Windler started with the New York Knicks before moving to the LA Lakers, where he most recently played 11 games on a two-way deal.
Standout G League Stats
In between his time in the NBA, Windler has shown promise in the G League. Over 42 G League games, he’s averaged 13.4 points and 8 rebounds in 28 minutes per game. Windler made history in January 2024, when he grabbed an NBA G League record 33 rebounds to go along with 23 points in a single game. He became just the second player in G League history to record over 20 points and 30 rebounds in one game.
Collegiate Success at Belmont
Before turning pro, Windler played four years of college ball at Belmont University. He averaged 13.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2 assists over 128 games. As a senior, Windler led Belmont to their first ever NCAA Tournament win and at-large tournament bid. His success in school earned him 2018-19 OVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.
The addition of Windler gives the Hawks more frontcourt depth and an athletic forward with significant upside. If Windler can translate his G League success to the NBA level, he could become a key role player for the Hawks this season and beyond. Overall, this seems like a low-risk, high-reward signing for Atlanta.
