Atlanta United draw 2-2 to NYC FC

In front of a crowd of 42,557 fans, Atlanta United returned to action Wednesday to hosts New York City FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta is currently riding a six-match unbeaten run and coming off a 3-1 win against D.C. United before the international break. With 35 goals, Atlanta has the second-highest scoring attack in MLS this season, trailing Columbus with 36. The club has scored a league-best 24 goals in the second half of matches.

Ahead of the match Atlanta is 6-1-2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium while New York City is searching for its first away win of the season.

 

In the 11th minute Tyler Wolfe scored a goal for the team to put the score 1-1.

At the half Atlanta remained tied 1-1.

 

In the end Atlanta United scored a goal during  stoppage trailing by 2-1 Atlanta pushed for the match-leveling goal. Machop Chol received a pass out wide on the right and found the run of Brooks Lennon towards the end line. Lennon pushed the ball into the center of the penalty area where Nick Firmino stood at the six-yard box and headed the ball down, sending it into the net. It was Firmino’s first MLS goal and his ninth in 2023, as the Brazilian leads ATL UTD 2 with eight goals in MLS NEXT Pro play.

Maybe it wasn’t good as at times we didn’t look as good as cohesive which maybe is normal, but we were fighting, we were competing till the end we were pushing for 3 points. I like that, stats aside. 12 shots for us, three for them. We couldn’t manufacture more chances, but I still think kudos to the kids for the fight.

Atlanta United (7-4-8, 29 points) returns to action when it travels to face New York Red Bulls on Saturday, June 24 at Red Bull Arena.
