Atlanta United defeat Chicago FC

Atlanta United returned to action at the Mercedes Benz on Sunday April 23, to host Chicago Fire FC in front of 43,335 fans.

 

Ahead of the matchup Atlanta is coming off of a 2-2 Draw after facing Toronto FC on Saturday April 15 at BMO Field behind goals from Giorgos Giakoumakis  and Machop Chol. Giakoumakis scored his fourth consecutive game while Chol scored his first MLS goal.

Atlanta United scored the first goal of the evening by Giorgos Giakoumakis.

At the half  Five Stripes led 1-0.

In the final minute, Atlanta scored the latest goal in club history, an own-goal to come away with three points and remain unbeaten at home through five matches.

Giorgos Giakoumakis netted his fifth goal in his fifth start for the club while Thiago Almada recorded his team-leading sixth assist of the year and now leads Major League Soccer with 10 goal contributions in just seven matches played.
