Hawks Defeat Pelicans in 124-121 in OT

Dejounte Murray led the Hawks in overtime with six points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Murray gained his 18th career triple-double with 22 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds and three steals, which tied with Mark Jackson and Chris Paul for the 10th-most triple-doubles in NBA history for any player 6-4 and under.

Saturday’s 124-121 victory over New Orleans is Atlanta’s first overtime win since 4/1/21 at San Antonio.

The win moves the overall overtime record to 121-116 and 76-55 at home.

Atlanta outscored New Orleans in both bench points (25-15), and points off turnovers (23-16).

Atlanta had five players score in double digits.

Trae Young led the team in scoring 34 points, 10 assists. marking the 101st time in his career he has scored 30+ points,

Murray and Young became the first pair of Hawks teammates in franchise history to tally 30+ points/10+ assists and 20+ points/10+ assists in the same game. It’s the 55th such instance in NBA history (regular season), per Elias Sports.

Clint Capela scored a double-double with season highs of 21 points and 19 rebounds, adding four blocks, one assist and one steal. De’Andre Hunter collected 15 points, six rebounds, one block and one assist in 39 minutes.

“I try to come with the same mentality every night,” said Clint Capela. “Go after every shot. Be a presence defensively.”

Jalen Johnson added 11 points to round off the scoring efforts.

“I thought young fella did a nice job of stepping in. Our matchup at the beginning of the game was Onyeka, Zion .That wasn’t working. Zion went to the basket a couple of times easy. We switched Jalen on Williamson,” coach McMillan continued. “And I thought he did a really nice job of staying in front of him and making him go over the top. Forced two turnovers pretty quickly. Offensively, he was able to make some shots. Get to the rim. So I thought he gave us solid minutes coming off the bench tonight.”

Trae Young also spoke on Atlanta rapper Takeoff tragic death, at the post game presser. “It’s just so sad and it really opens my eyes and I hop it opens others…just how short this life can be and how you can’t take any moments for granted because you never know when your last one will be.”

Up Next: The Atlanta Hawks will face the Milwaukee Bucs tonight at  State Farm Arena. Offensively Atlanta has enough man power to  another win at home however, the Bucks have been good on both ends of the court. Expect a competitive game tonight.
