Back to Back to Back Goals Lift Atlanta United Past D.C. United 3-2

In front of 42,561 fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday afternoon Atlanta United defeated D.C. United.

The 3-2 victory marks the first time in Atlanta United history that the team has scored three headed goals in one match and the first team in MLS to do so this season.

The second half was an electrifying fast pace back-and-forth with Atlanta battling hard to secure three points.

In the 49th minute Alan Franco, scored his first Atlanta United goal.

In the 62nd minute Josef Martínez sent the ball into the back of D.C. net

Juanjo Purata scored the final goal of the night in the 69th minute to secure the 3-2 win.

The win was Atlanta’s first come-from-behind win of the season and moved the 5-Stripes within three points of the playoff line.

“Look at tonight, we go down, we level it, we go down again, we level it, and then we win. That is resilience right there. If we did not care about this season and the remainder of the games, we could just throw the towel in, but you see the fight that everyone in this locker room has and the willingness to get points and make the playoffs.” Head Coach Gonzalo Pineda.
