Tina Charles and Storm Past Dream

The Seattle Storm beat the Atlanta Dream 82-72 on Sunday behind vet Tina Charles milestone double double, with 27 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks.

Charles joins Diana Taurasi, Tina Thompson and Tamika Catchings as the fourth player to ever reach 7,000 career points.

From the start the ball movement was fast. Seattle opened the scoring effort with six points. Atlanta fought back and tied the score 19-19.

At the half, Atlanta landed a bucket to gain the lead. Midway though the second Charles buried a three from beyond the arc. Both teams fought hard to win, Atlanta narrowed the scoring gap to five points but a pair of free throws from Charles at the end of the quarter gave Seattle a 41-34 lead.

In the end the Storm outscored Atlanta in the final minutes. Seattle was the better team in this matchup. The Dream had a good defense, but Seattle’s was better.

Atlanta’s record against Seattle moves to 15-21 all-time.

Rhyne Howard led Atlanta in scoring  23 points. Howard now holds the record for most 20-point games by a Dream rookie in franchise history, passing Angel McCoughtry (2009), Brittney Sykes (2017) and Chennedy Carter (2020), who all had 6.

Cheyenne Parker and Tiffany Hayes scored 12 apiece, while Naz Hillmon added nine points and 14 rebounds.

Up Next: Atlanta (12-16) is headed home on the first annual HBCU Night partnership commencing with the Dream’s HBCU + Divine Nine Weekend, taking place during two home games against the Minnesota Lynx (HBCU Night) presented by Georgia Lottery on July 28 and the Dallas Wings (Divine Nine Game Theme) on July 30 presented by Microsoft.
