Atlanta United rallies for 3-3 tie against CF Montreal

Atlanta United played to a 3-3 draw against CF Montreal on Saturday in front of 42,578 fans at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta United opened the match with its quickest goal of the season in the sixth minute by Josef Martínez. The goal marked Martínez second goal of the season.

In the second half Atlanta trailed 3-1. With the team reduced to 10-men, in the final five minutes Atlanta United scored two goals, plus stoppage time to earn a point heading into the FIFA international break.

Thiago Almada scored in the 85th minute to make it a one-goal game. The goal marked Almada first for the club.

“I hit it and luckily it was a goal, my first in Atlanta and I’m very happy that we were able to take something from a very difficult game and the important thing is that we didn’t lose.” midfielder Thiago Almada.

Brooks Lennon netted his first of the year and his first career goal from a direct free kick.

It was announced by Atlanta United that Ronald Hernández, Josef Martínez and Miles Robinson have received national team call-ups to the Venezuela and United States Men’s National Teams ahead of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Conmebol and Concacaf, while Caleb Wiley has been called up to the U.S. Under-20 Men’s Youth National Team for two matches in Argentina.

 

Atlanta (2-1-1, 7 points) returns to action Saturday, April 2 when it travels to face D.C. United at Audi Field.
