HAWKS AND SKYHAWKS TO PARTICIPATE IN ‘NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY

Wednesday marked “National Read Across America Day.” In celebration and to tip off Women’s History Month, executives and staff from the Atlanta Hawks and College Park Skyhawks read to students at the RISE Schools in East Point Georgia about accomplished female athletes and their contribution to sports.

“We have always endeavored to be a true civic community asset and how we can help make the community a better place to live work and play and it’s been really a mission of ours under our true to Atlanta mantra and this is just one of the many events we do to support our community and it’s really exciting. As we begin women’s history month to really lean in and brace this and tie Read Across America and really just highlight women throughout history and specifically in sports as well. The titles we’re choosing from today’s  books is that students can see their future selves (and say), Hey I can achieve that because she achieved that. So it’s a really exciting opportunity for us.”  Andrew Saltzman, EVP and Chief Revenue Officer, Atlanta Hawks,College Park Skyhawks, Hawks talent, gaming club and State Farm arena.

“Talking to these phenomenal kids and asking them who their favorite female athletes. They all had many names that just rolled off her tongue. I think that speaks to the power and the influence that women’s sports has had, and it’s not just women who say, Hey! I can be the next Serena Williams or Venus Williams or Candace Parker, but it’s the young boys realizing that women can be just as a great athletes as men can be. I just think it’s just a wonderful thing. We’re thrilled about Papa John’s as a great partner because pizza and sports go great together. It’s an exciting program for us and I’m thrilled to be here.”
