Atlanta United returns to action Saturday night against Inter Miami CF at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the third meeting between the two clubs.
Jon Gallagher scored his first MLS goal and George Bello added his first assist. After a wide-open first 15 minutes of the match, Atlanta began to control the pace and possession of the match, and despite a hard-fought effort that saw Atlanta win 59 percent of its duels – its second highest of the season – the team was unable to find an equalizer.
Interim Head Coach Stephen Glass spoke on Jon Gallagher and Jake Mulraney’s performance, “Yeah, I think we were more of a threat. I don’t think it was just a case of getting in behind. It was controlled passes that were going in there that were creating positive opportunities. Obviously where we fell down is when they backed off a bit to prevent the balls in behind, we could have played better through the middle. That understanding from a group of players could have been better. It’s difficult when it’s a group of players who haven’t played together. It’s not an excuse, but it’s something that we could be recognizing in the game. It was controlled at times and giving Jake and Jon opportunities.”
Atlanta United (3-7-2, 11 points) returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 23 against FC Dallas at 7:00 PM.
