Moore put her WNBA career with the Minnesota Lynx on hold before the 2019 season to work for Irons’ freedom.
The couple met in 1998 when Moore’s godparents and my great uncle introduced them through a prison ministry program in Jefferson City, Mo. when she was 18 years old.
Irons, 40, was convicted for a non-fatal shooting in 1997 by an all-white jury and sentenced to 50 years when he was 16. A judge overturned his case this year over indications the case was mishandled and he was released from prison on July 1.
When asked if Moore would resume her WNBA career she said, “I am trying to really just breathe from this long, long battle,” Moore said. “There’s a lot of unknowns for a lot of us right now. So I’m still in that camp.”
