The Atlanta Dream fought hard on Sunday but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Sparks who pulled away with a 84-79 win and became the third team to seal a spot in the WNBA playoffs, joining Seattle and Las Vegas.

This is the second time the Dream have lost to the Sparks this season. The first came on August 21, when Atlanta dropped a 93-85 decision in overtime.

Atlanta’s record against Los Angeles moves to 16-14 all-time. The Dream previously dropped a 93-85 decision in overtime to the Sparks on August 21.

“Hollywood” Chennedy Carter led the team in scoring 26 points, 4 rebounds and  1 assists.  This was Carters ninth time scoring in double-figures this season.

Monique Billings recorded her fifth double-digit rebounding game with 14 tonight, adding on 12 points for her fourth double-double of the season and fifth of her career.

“I think if you look at the stretch from about five minutes to three minutes, we missed three layups and we had two turnovers. A turnover when we got a stop in transition that we gave back to them, and the dropped pass by E [Elizabeth Williams] where she was wide open under the rim. We were getting good shots. We were getting any shot we wanted. We were missing around the rim.” said Coach Nicki on what hindered the Atlanta Dream from winning down the stretch.

Next up: The Atlanta Dream now (3-13) will face off  against the Indiana Fever (5-10) today at 8:00 p.m. ET on Fox Sports South and Facebook.

Here’s what assistant coach Darius Taylor said about the keys for tonight’s game against Indiana.
