In a statement released today Atlanta United announced that a First Team player has tested positive for COVID-19 following mandatory club testing. No additional staff or players received a positive result.
Atlanta United players began voluntary individual training sessions on May 6, the club has followed MLS health and safety guidelines, including proper physical distancing and sanitization during individual workouts, small group training sessions and full group training sessions.
On June 4, the team begin small group training and mandatory full team training sessions June 8.
On June 4, the USL Championship announced its intention of returning to play for the 2020 season, with a provisional start date set for July 11. While additional information on competition format, scheduling, broadcast and other important details will be made available in the coming weeks, it’s important to note that the league’s return to play will be conducted in strict alignment with all local and state public health guidelines.
