Dunks, Dribbles and the 2020 Dub: Hawks Pullout Thrilling Win Over The Pacers 116-111

Hawks gained their first epic 2020 year win on Saturday night against the Pacers at home.

In the first quarter, the Hawks offensive efforts exploded with a season-high 43 points. This is the fourth time the team have reached 40 points in a quarter this season and the second-highest scoring period of the season overall (44 in the fourth period vs. Milwaukee on 11/20/19).

During the 2nd and 3rd quarters the pace slowed down, and the back and forth continued, but the Hawks was able to maintain the lead.

Even being without John Collins, Cam Reddish, and Jabari Parker the Hawks was able to win the game defensively and close out the 4th quarter with a 116-111 victory.

We can’t forget about Trae Young’s stellar performance in the paint. Young led the Hawks in scoring a phenomenal 41 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds. It is Young’s 12th game this season with multiple steals and the fifth time this season Young has scored 40 points or more (second in the NBA behind James Harden’s 14). Young set a career-high for scoring in one half with 30 points in the opening half.

Kevin Huerter scored a season-high 26 points, adding 6 rebounds, 5 assists. Huerter has scored in double-figures in five out of his last six contests.

Alex Len gathered 16 points, 9 rebounds, followed by Bruno Fernando who added 19 points, 4 rebounds to round off the scoring effort.

Ladies and gentlemen we have to take a moment and speak on Mr. Vince Carter historical night. Carter became the first player in NBA history to play in a game in four different decades (1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s). Carter knocked down one triple, grabbed three rebounds and tallied one assist in 18 minutes, tying Lafayette Lever for 74th on the all-time assists list with 4,696. “I saw a picture of one of my teammates by the name of Hakeem Olajuwon. And then you have the little loud mouth guy that just left here, Trae. As much as I talk to people and handshake former teammates that are now GMs, coaches, whatever they are. I can say I played against Michael Jordan and now I’m playing (with) the Trae Youngs, and all the stars of today. I’m just very thankful to still be around and compete at this level.” said Vince Carter.

“Good, inspired basketball. I’m proud of our guys. We were playing musical chairs with our lineup before the game with guys being out and I thought the guys came in and really played inspired basketball.” said Lloyd Pierce.
