Hawks drop close-fought battle to Jazz 111-106

In the wake of a five-game losing streak, the Atlanta Hawks returned home on Thursday night in hopes of  snapping the streak, facing the Utah Jazz.

At the end of the 1st quarter Jabari Parker scored 11 points, to help the Hawks lead by 2 points.

With the steady back-and-forth action between the Hawks and the Jazz, Atlanta maintained the lead at the half.

At the end of the 3rd the Hawks led by a nail-biting 84-83.

It’s was in the 4th, things came down to the wire. The back-and-forth pace of the game  continued. With 4:45 minutes left on the clock,  Kevin Huerter shot a 3-pointer that tied the game 99-99 .

The Hawks ultimately missed out on the opportunity to break the tie to win the game. Atlanta fell short to Utah 106-111.

Trae Young led the Hawks in scoring 30 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. It is the 15th time this season Young has scored 30 points or more. Young is now tied with John Drew (1975-76) for the most 30-point games for a Hawk in their second season.

 Jabari Parker added 23 points. Parker has recorded at least one steal in 18 of the last 19 contests.

Kevin Huerter tied a season high in points with 17, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Huerter has scored in double-figures in each of the last two contests.

At the post game presser, coach Lloyd Pierce said, “We had a couple of those little opportunities that just didn’t go our way and the next thing you know, it’s a five-point game and (Gobert) misses a ton of free throws and you look back, just figuring out how to get some of those back. But our guys’ competitive spirit was great tonight.”

?? ????: The Hawks now (6-23) are on the road to take on the Nets Saturday. Hawks John Collins is expected to return to the team on Monday’s matchup against the Cavaliers after being on a 25 game suspension for a violation of the NBA’s anti-drug program.

The team will return home on Dec. 27th against the Bucks.
