The Rise and Fall of Colin Kaepernick

Is it deeper than throwing a football?
Some players just play the game, while some players become political activists.
San Francisco is the center of Northen California. However, “The City” has always been the center of change.
In 1948 Joe Perry, the 49ers first African- American player faced racial abuse and discrimination on and off the field.
Fast forward six decades, the 49ers selected Colin Kaepernick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Kaepernick isn’t known for his throwing abilities, he’s known as the player who kneeled during the national anthem.

Other players followed in his footsteps.

Kaepernick continues to send a strong message to the NFL. He wore a Roots inspired shirt to his NFL workout.

In 2012 Kaepernick led the 49ers to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994.
A lot has changed since then.

It’s been nearly three years since Kaepernick suited up in an NFL uniform.  He played six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

For a moment, it felt like the former 49ers star would have another opportunity to play in the league.
The NFL scheduled a workout for Kaepernick to take place on Saturday at the Atlanta Falcons’ training facility. Twenty-five clubs were present for the session.
Suddenly, things began to fall apart.

Displeased with the set-up of his workout, Kaepernick changed the location to an Atlanta high school on short notice with fewer teams present.

Kaepernick received no contract offers after his workout. He remains an unrestricted free agent.
