What an awesome bounceback for the Atlanta Dream last night! Everyone came out in their pink to support those affected by breast cancer and it was an amazing turnout! To put the icing on the cake, the Atlanta Dream advanced to 17-10 with their win over the Chicago Sky last night! The final score was 89-74 and we’re still #2 in the league! Courtney Vandersloot came out firing from the arc and ended with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Gabby Williams, Allie Quigley and Cheyenne Parker combined for 24 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists to help out. Also, Diamond DeShields, Stefanie Dolson and Linnae Harper combined for 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists.

However, it wasn’t enough to kill the Dream! Angel Mccoughtry started out with some foul trouble but came in extra clutch in the second half to end with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. She’s our veteran and she knows exactly how to heat it up on the court when needed! Tiffany Hayes performed exceptionally well as always with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. In the postgame press conference, Hayes was asked to speak on her constant passion she continues to bring game after game and her response was simply, “That’s just my game”. We hear you Tiffany, keep playing with passion! Jessica Breland came through with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. What’s interesting is that just one day before the game, Breland painfully dislocated her thumb in practice and it took a number of resources to get it back into place. She was still able to play her heart out and when asked about how she was able to still perform under those conditions, she replied “When something happens, I just persevere. I just go through it and keep going. Even when I had cancer, I just fought through it”. What a warrior Jessica is and we commend her for her hard work and strength to always persevere. Alex Bentley brought a huge amount of energy to the court last night in order to hold off Courtney Vandersloot and stop her from being open to make shots. Courtney Vandersloot had 6 turnovers last night and most of that was all because of Atlanta’s tough defense, specifically Alex Bentley’s defense. Bentley ended with 11 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds. Controlling the floor and making opportunities available for her teammates is exactly what she excelled in last night and she said in the postgame press conference that it was all about her focus. Bentley stated, “Last game, I don’t think we came in very focused but I wanted to do whatever I could to bring energy and positivity to the game tonight and I’m glad I was able to do that and help my teammates get a win.” Go girls! Next up, the Atlanta Dream will host the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, August 7 at 7 PM! Keep running with the Dream and before you know it, we’ll be running towards that championship trophy! Let’s go Dream!
