Atlanta Dream fans, here we are with an update on your Atlanta Dream! They took a tough loss on Friday against the Seattle Storm 95-86. Breanna Stewart ended with an explosive 29 points, 9 rebounds and three blocks to carry the Storm through to the end. Sue Bird accompanied Stewart with 18 points and 10 assists. Alysha Clark, Natasha Howard and Jewell Lloyd also assisted the duo of Bird and Stewart with critical rebounds and assists. As for your Atlanta Dream, Angel Mccoughtry ended with 26 clutch points and 4 rebounds; Tiffany Hayes also helped with putting up 23 points and 3 rebounds, keeping the energy high and running the floor hard! Accompanying the two was Brittany Sykes with 12 points and 6 rebounds and also Damiris Dantas with 5 key assists. Coach Nicki Collen said in the post game media interview that the loss was disappointing but she strives to make this team better in every way possible; her ending quote “We’ve just gotta keep getting better.” Unsure of how Sunday afternoon would turn out after the loss on Friday to the Storm, the Dream faced the Phoenix Mercury and eked out an incredible victory, 76-70. Atlanta took the lead all game long and almost lost it at the end but let’s just say dreams are far too big to disappoint. There was much physical action throughout the game, bodies hitting the floor and lots of calls disagreed upon but Atlanta still took the win and ran!
Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi combined with 37 points,7 rebounds and 5 assists. Dealing with a recent injury of Sancho Lyttle, they were down a body but still showed much effort and tenacity in trying to win on Sunday. DeWanna Bonner and Angel Robinson combined for 17 rebounds also. Leilani Mitchell came later in the game clutch with 10 points to get the score back close enough, in hopes to get a win.
Interesting enough, Coach Nicki played the entire bench on Sunday which definitely showed their unity and chemistry together to beat one of the top teams and duos in the league. Tiffany Hayes ended with 18 points and played as if she was on fire, running the floor and locking down on defense. Right behind Hayes was Brittany Sykes and Renee Montgomery with 13 points; Angel Mccoughtry and Elizabeth Williams also had 10 points, with a combined total of 10 rebounds and 6 assists! How about Jessica Breland with 12 rebounds, you go girl! Blake Deitrick got a good amount of minutes Sunday afternoon and she used it very wisely by locking down on defense to bother the guards and force turnovers. Imani McGee-Stafford also aided with 8 rebounds. Collectively, the Dream had to find ways to bother Phoenix, force turnovers and get steals as often as possible.Defense, offense, steals, blocks, rebounds, running the floor; whatever it was, let’s just say everyone added a helping hand. This win improved Atlanta to a 9-9 record overall, next up the Washington Mystics away at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, Indiana Fever at home at 7 PM on Friday and the Washington Mystics at home on Sunday at 3 PM!
