?Sad News: Atlanta’s News Icon Amanda Davis has passed away

The Legendary news anchor and Atlanta Icon who spent over three decades of her broadcasting career in Atlanta,  Amanda Davis  passed away at 62.

It was reported by CBS 46, where she worked. That Amanda was at Hartsfield-Jackson International airport in Atlanta on Dec. 26 on her way to San Antonio, where she was headed following the death of her stepfather when she suffered a “massive, spontaneous stroke,” She was then rushed to the hospital to undergo treatment, but she tragically died around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday .

She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Amanda’s family is asking for “privacy at this difficult time.”

Growing up in Atlanta, when I think about African American Women anchors my thought immediately goes to Monica Kaufman, Brenda Woods and Amanda Davis who worked as a reporter at WAGA-TV from 1986 to 2013.

Amanda Davis was a fixture in my home. As a kid growing up in Decatur, Georgia my fondest memories was immediately after  dinner my grandparents would turn on Channel 5 news to see Ms. Davis.

On Wednesday nights I would watch Amanda host the “Wednesday’s Child” segment where I saw a gentler nurturing side of her.  Her compassionate side shined through as she interacted  with the orphaned children all while being  a beacon of hope to attract adoptive parents  who could provide loving permanent and homes for the children in Georgia’s foster care system.

Other memories included her covering Coretta Scott King’s funeral and interviewing President-elect Barack Obama.

When I think of Amanda I think of beauty, courage, class and a resilient soul who rose above her adversity and stood strong within her weakness. With the fight of a lion she overcame and won her battle victoriously!

I will definitely miss Amanda Davis who is not only my inspiration but my motivation! Rest In Peace.?
