Final Games GOOD AND BAD : Atlanta Dream Season ends with the parting ways of coach Michael Cooper

After the Atlanta Dream’s final home game on Saturday August 26, 2017 at McCamish Pavilion ending with an epic 74-79 OT win against the Indiana Fever.

 

On Friday,  September 1, 2017 the Dream face -off against the Sparks at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The Dream was unable to hold off the Sparks and loss 81-56.  Tiffany Hayes finished with the game with 19 points.

In the final game of the season the Dream went toe to toe with the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, September 3, 4:00 pm at The Talking Stick Resort Arena, in Arizona.

 

In yet another and final L, the Dream succumb to defeat  by the Mercury 84-70.

Like the previous season the ultimate dream was to reach the playoffs this season. Unfortunately that dream was broken when the Dream was unable to clinch a playoff berth and finished the season 12-22. In an unexpected twist to the end of the season. The Dream parted ways with coach Michael Cooper after 4 years.

In an official team statement, Michael Cooper said, “I am very proud of the young and cohesive team we’ve built and I want to thank the Atlanta fans, the Dream organization, and, most of all, our players for their dedication and hard work,” Michael Cooper said. “We’ve grown as a team and I’m confident these talented and exciting players will continue to realize their potential both as a team and individually.”

Brittany Sykes was named to the AP All Rookie Team.

Sykes also earned WNBA Rookie of the month for the second consecutive time.

In a league statement,“The WNBA scored its highest attendance in six years and set records for social media and merchandise during the 2017 regular season.”

With the Dream having many ups and downs and the season ending with another loss. The Dream took the time out to thank the fans.

Out with the old GA Dome in with the new Mercedes Benz Stadium

Finally the Atlanta Falcons played their first game in their new  home, the Mercedes Benz Stadium

 

In the 1st quarter Rookie outside line backer Duke Riley made a fumble recovery.

 

 

Off to a slow start ,at  the end of the 1st quarter the scoreboard was scoreless.

 

 

Rookie  defensive end Takkarist  Mckinley recovered a fumble.

The Cardinals edged the Falcons 17-3 at halftime.  Falcons kicker Matt Bryant added 3 points to the Falcons  score with a field goal from 20 yard.

At the 3rd quarter, cornerback Jalen Collins forced a fumble on Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Chad Williams. Falcons cornerback C.J. Goodwin  made a  recovery.

 

At the end of the 3rd quarter the Falcons trailed behind the Cardinals 6-17.

Falcons wide receiver Josh Magee goes for 57 yards for a touchdown!

At the end of the 4th quarter the Falcons flew south and was unable keep up with the Cardinals. The Cardinals defeated  the Falcons 14-24.

 

This is the Atlanta Falcons third Pre-season game loss. After the game coach Dan Quin spoke about the preseason game lose to the Cardinals.

 

The Atlanta Dream’s last home game of the season ends with a BIG W!

In an intense match-up the Atlanta Dream battled the Indiana Fever in their last home game of the season on Fan Appreciation night, Sat August 26, 2017 at the McCamish Pavilion.

The starting line up (G)Laysia Clarendon, (F) Tiffany Hayes, (C)Elizabeth Williams.

The Dream trailed the Fever 8 points in the beginning of the 1st quarter.

In the end of the 1st quarter the Fever led the Dream by 14 points.

At Halftime,  Tiffany Hayes garnished a game high of 13 points.  The Dream was down 35-43.

In the beginning of  3rd quarter and with another L lingering over the Dream’s head the Fever was in the lead 50-46.

In a win or lose tale of events Elizabeth Williams and Brittney Sykes assisted the Dream in tying  up the game 50-50.

At the end of the 3rd, the Fever managed to pull away from the Dream with a 1-point lead 55-56.

At the end of 4th quarter and with only 19 seconds left on the clock  Brittney Sykes made a 3 point shot that tied up the game 68-68 and sent the game into overtime.

In an amazing ending, the Atlanta Dream defeated the Indiana Fever 79-74.

  

Tiffany Hayes had a game-high of 24 points.

Brittney Sykes added 16 points and 6 rebounds.

 

 

The Dream will match up against the Los Angeles Spark on Friday  Sept 1, 2017 at the Staples Center in LA.

The Atlanta Falcons will play the Arizona Cardinals today. This will be the Falcons first game in the NEW Mercedes Benz Stadium!

 

The Dream will matchup against the Indiana Fever for their last home game of the season today!

 

Last but not least the most anticipated fight or should I see the most controversial fight will be happening today as well! Floyd “Money” Mayweather will finally go up against UFC fighter Connor McGregor.

ATLANTA DREAM BREAK THEIR 9-GAME LOSING STREAK

The starting line up for Wednesday night, against the Seattle Storm was (G)  Layshia Clarendon, (F) Tiffany Hayes, and (C) Elizabeth Williams.

Three-time WNBA MVP and four-time Olympic gold medal winner who was picked number-seven in the 1997 inaugural WNBA draft; retired WNBA Legend Lisa Leslie was sitting court side showing support.

Cool fact about Lisa Leslie: On my born day July 30, the year was 2002 , Leslie became the first woman to dunk the ball in a WNBA game!

In 1st quarter Brittney Sykes tied the game 38 -38. Elizabeth Williams gained a  game high of 8 points.

At Halftime,  the Dream trailed behind the Storm 43-48.

Layshia Clarendon accumulated 8 points and 10 assists.

By the 3rd quarter, the game was tied 64-64. Clarendon lead the team with a game high of 15 points and 10 assists.

In the 4th quarter Clarendon finished out the game with 17 points , and 14 assists.

With tensions high and with hopes of a future playoff berth on the line the Dream pulled out a nail-biting win over the  Seattle Storm.

The  Dream’s last home game of the season is on Saturday, August 26, 6:00 PM, at McCamish Pavilion against the Indiana Fever.

 

 

Home Sweet Home: Atlanta Dream will face-off against the Storm tonight

The Atlanta Dream are back at home  after their away game lost 86-90 to the Dallas Wing on Saturday.

 

 

Tonight the Dream with face off  with the Seattle Storm  in hopes  of breaking their 9-game losing streak!

7 is not so lucky for the Dream as they reach their 8th L

Back at home and with a 7- game losing streak the Atlanta Dream face off against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday at McCamish Pavilion!

In the first quarter, the Dream was down 12 points.

Brittany Sykes scored a team high of 7 points.

At Halftime, the Dream  trailed behind the Sun 17 points.

Brittany Sykes scored a team high of 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Atlanta Dream fell behind  28 points in the third.

Brittany Sykes scored 18 points and Layshia Clarendon scored 9 assists.

 

In the fourth quarter Brittany  Sykes finished with a team-high of 23 points. The Dream reached a devastating 8-game losing streak with a 75-96 loss to the Sun.

After the game Brittany Sykes spoke about the loss.

Coach Michael Cooper also spoke about the tough loss.

The next match up will be a away game. The Dream will go toe to toe with Dallas Wings in hopes of breaking their losing streak on Sat August 19, 2017.

Another tough loss for the Atlanta Dream

The Atlanta Dream faced the New York Liberty on Friday August 11, 2017 at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta

In the first quarter Tiffany Hayes put  a 3 -pointer on the scoreboard for the Atlanta Dream.

At halftime, the Liberty lead the Dream 47-34.

At the half, Tiffany Hayes had a team high of 7 points & 3 rebounds.

At 3rd quarter the Atlanta Dream lagged behind the Liberty 14 points.

With a W on the line to break the 5 game losing streak.  The Atlanta’s Dream win became deflated with a 77-83 loss against the New York Liberty.

Brittany Sykes finished the game with a team high of 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

After the game Brittany Sykes and Layshiac Clarendon spoke about the tough loss.

 

Redemption time will be tonight!

The Atlanta  Dream will match-up against the San Antonio Stars at the AT&T center in San Antonio.
