After falling to the Las Vegas Aces 79-89 on Saturday at IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida, the Atlanta Dream will wrap up the 2020 regular with three games this week (Sky Wed 9/10 at 8:00 PM, Sun Fri 9/11 at 7:00 PM and Mystics Sun 9/13 at 5:00).

A look back: On Saturday, Atlanta led former teammate Angel McCoughtry and the Las Vegas Aces 23-21 in the 1st quarter. At the half Vegas led by one point. In the final quarter McCoughtry rattled Atlanta defensively to help the Aces walk away with an 89-79 dub.

“It’s always special for me to play Atlanta, but it was more about fighting for these wins. Everybody is scratching and clawing at this point, everybody is trying to make the playoffs, so we get it. We know it’s going to be tough.” said two time Olympian McCoughtry, 33, who signed with the Las Vegas Aces In February, ending her career in Atlanta that began in 2009, when the Dream selected her with No. 1 overall draft pick.

Betnijah Laney led the Dream in scoring and recorded her 16th double-digit scoring effort of the season with 21 points.

Chennedy Carter collected 19 points, and 6 assists for her 10th double-digit effort of the season. Courtney Williams poured in 18 points, her 13th double-digit game of 2020. Elizabeth Williams chipped in with 10 points for her eighth double-digit effort.

“I think it was a tough stretch because we got good shots. During that stretch we had a layup for Elizabeth [Williams] on a drop off from Mo [Monique Billings]. Then Blake [Dietrick] had a driving left handed layup. So, we had back to back layups that we missed. Then, we got a wide open three for Strick [Shekinna Stricklen] in the corner with a nice screen from Mo [Monique Billings]. That happens. You miss those and in that combination was, obviously, the fast break clear path. Which hurts you. I thought even on that one we had a nice kick out, and we were being overly unselfish. Blake [Dietrick] should have shot it. Tried to make the extra to Strick [Shekinna Stricklen] and Angel [McCoughtry] stole it. That was it.” said Coach Nicki about the Aces 10-0 run in the final period.

Atlanta’s record against the Las Vegas franchise moves to 16-14 all-time.

Next up: The Dream now (5-14) are still fighting for a WNBA Playoff spot, when the team take on the Chicago Sky (11-9) today at 8 p.m. You can watch the game on CBS Sports Network.
