Skyhawks defeat Grand Rapids 98-94

On Friday night the College Park Skyhawks fell to the Grand Rapids Drive 116-100

Less than 48 hours later, on Sunday in a intense rematch the Skyhawks redeemed themselves offensively to seal a 98-94 win at home on Kids Jam Night at Gateway Center Arena.

The score was tied four times throughout the game.

At the end of the 1st quarter the Skyhawks led by 1 point.

Up by 2 points at the half, the Skyhawks maintained a 51-49 lead.

Heading into the 4th the Skyhawks was able to jump out to a 9 point lead.

In the 4th quarter Grand Rapids had the Skyhawks on their heels after picking up the pace and briefly leading. It was the Drive’s inability to land free-throws, going just 6-14 from the charity stripe, aided the Skyhawks in finding a victorious ending.

Two Atlanta Hawks two-way players scored in double digits. Hawks Charlie Brown Jr led the team in scoring 22 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Nick Ward gained a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Derrickson collected 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Hawks Brandon Goodwin secured a double-double with 14 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds to round out the scoring effort.

After the game Coach Noel Gillespie spoke about the energy of the crowd.

The Skyhawks return to the court on Wednesday December 11, 2019, to face Capital City at home. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm.
