The Thrill is Gone: Hawks crushed by Brooklyn

After snapping their losing streak with a win over Golden State on Monday night. The Hawks returned to the court on Wednesday to matchup against the Brooklyn Nets. Despite the Hawks efforts and having a fiery start, the fire sizzled out fast when the Nets delivered the Hawks another L.

The Hawks led by 4 points at the end of the first quarter.

At the half, Damian Jones led the team with 13 points.

The Nets continuously knocked down the Hawks defensively which ultimately led to the 118-130 defeat.  Missing 11 games due to a shoulder injury Kevin Huerter returned to the paint and missed the only two shots he shot. Although his presence did not make a major impact on the game, having him back is greatly needed for the upcoming games.

Trae Young led the team in scoring 39 points, gathering 10 assists, and 3 rebounds. It is Young’s  11th 30-point game of the season and his fifth 30-point, 10- assist game this season. Young now has 12 career games of 30-or-more points and 10-or-more assists, the most by any player in NBA history before turning 22 years old.

Damian Jones posted a career-high in points for the second consecutive game scoring 20 points, to go along with a career-high tying eight rebounds and one block.

Cam Reddish landed four- three pointers and scored a career-high 25 points and six rebounds.

“It’s a dream come true, of course. I finally got my rhythm back a little bit. All the glory to God. I’ve put the work in. Stay humble, stay grounded and keep pushing.” Reddish said about his performance.

“It’s a tough team to defend. said coach Pierce. “With Spencer Dinwiddie and the pick-and-rolls and his ability to get downhill, we had no answer for that.”

Taurean Prince returned back to Atlanta to face the team that traded him away. When asked, “If his return was bittersweet?”  Prince responded, “No, it’s sweet to be back. I love the city of Atlanta. Everybody here has shown me nothing but love.”

Up next: The Hawks now (5-17) will travel to Charlotte to take on the Hornets on Sunday! The team will return home Dec. 13 to face the Pacers.
