Yesterday, Angel McCoughtry announced on Instagram that she will be returning to the Atlanta Dream court for their final home game of the season.

This game will be against the New York Liberty on September 8th. This was a highly anticipated announcement as Dream fans haven’t been able to able to see their two time Olympic gold medalist star play since she was injured in August of last year.

As Angel has struggled with her ACL injury over the past year, her team has been struggling to find any ounce of success this 2019 season. The Atlanta Dream sit at the bottom of the WNBA rankings with a disappointing 5-22 record. They struggle to score enough to finish games with a win and have left their fan base pretty agitated. There has been a whole narrative this season that the reason the Dream is losing is because they have been without their star player, McCoughtry. Although it is true that you cannot be expected to win without your top athletes, the Dream only lost their last couple of games by a hand full of points. There is no excuse for that kind of loss. That comes down to missing early free-throws, turning the ball over, or missing open shot opportunities. You do not need your star player to close a 4, 5, 6 point gap. You need your good and great players to rise to the challenge and get those extra points and make those extra stops.

So after all of these hard losses, it will be a great treat for the Dream fans to see their 2009 number one overall draft pick take the court for the final home game. McCoughtry will be turning 33 later this year and we all know with age comes regressed performance, however, she will always be able to add expertise and veteran knowledge to the younger players on the court. This is something that they definitely could use. So, we will wish her a warm welcome on September 8th and watch to see what kind of impact she will have on the team moving forward.
