Another Tough Loss for the Dream

What started off as a slow start and a hopeful win with Alex Bentley tying the score 57-57 with six minutes left in the 4th quarter. All hopes abruptly ended with the Sun shining brightly with a 65-69 win over the Dream on Sunday at State Farm Arena.

Tiffany Hayes and Brittney Sykes led the team in scoring 14 points.

Hayes tied her career record with 19 attempted field goals, and set season highs with 14 points, six made field goals, two offensive rebounds, five defensive rebounds and seven total rebounds.

Sykes tied her career high of two steals for the sixth time.

At the post game press conference, Coach Nicki Collen spoke on competing down the stretch. “As soon as we subbed, we came with a different energy with the bench, and these two guys (Monique Billings and Brittney Sykes) were leaders that way, coming in and giving us a lot of energy. That pulled everybody else up, so then when I went back to the starters or any mixture, we competed at the level I expect the Dream to compete at every day, every single game.”

Dream (f), Elizabeth Williams put up 7 points on the board. Williams has now seen at least two blocks in four games this season. She also tied her season high with seven points, two made free throws, seven total rebounds, and set a season high with four offensive rebounds. After the game Williams spoke about the defeat and the positives.

The Dream now (1-4), is heading to Dallas seeking a big win to burst their 4-game losing streak when they matchup against the Wings next Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ETat the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. Stay tune!
